Richard O. Jacobson Technical High School at Seminole (Tech High at Seminole for short) is a district application program.  Students will get hands on learning experience, college articulation credit, internship opportunities, and a chance to be around students with similar interests!  Our campus offers academic courses in addition to our specialized programs so students can attend full-time.  Freshman and Sophomores will get the unique and amazing opportunity to apply to be a part of this new school in January.  To find out more contact our school, visit one of the district application fairs, or email Dr. Kirk!

Turn your passion for gaming into an exciting career as a Game Designer, Software Developer, Programmer, QA tester, Audio Engineer, User Interface Engineer, Script or Technical writer, 3-D animator, and more!  This program is project-based and focuses on production planning and design, storyboarding, visual design, integration of digital audio and video into new game productions, programming for single and multi-user environments, delivery systems, and collaboration/teamwork (soft skills, soft skills, soft skills).

 

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards, relevant technical knowledge, and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers. It provides technical skill proficiency and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of IT careers.

 

The content includes but is not limited to practical experiences in game/simulation conceptualization, design, storyboarding, development methodologies, essential programming techniques, and implementation issues.  Students also learn about business documentation including customer surveys, business requirements, use cases, architecture, report outs, and more!

Year 1 & 2: Game, Simulation, and Animation Programming
Game & Simulation Foundations and Design

- Create a game design production plan that describes the game play, outcomes, controls, interface and artistic style of a video game.

- Design and create a playable game

- Categorize the different gaming genres and platforms.

- Understand the historical significance of electronic and non-electronic games and describe trends.

- Identify the business model commonly used in game development industries.

- Understand the core tasks and challenges that face a video game design team.

Investigate career opportunities in the game industry.

-Explore the methods used to create and sustain player immersion.

Identify popular games and identify commonality between them.

Describe the game development life cycle.

-Create and design the game flow as it relates to story and plot.

-Describe player challenge rule creation elements.

-Describe pertinent issues facing game designers.

-Describe the roles within a game studio.
